This boost compensator will fit a broad range of VE style injection pumps.
The primary reason you’re finding this item here is for adapting non-turbo pumps, such as found on the Toyota 1HZ engines, that are getting a turbo added and you want to optimize your engine’s performance through proper fuel delivery.
A boost compensator allows the pump to supply the correct amount of fuel to the engine at varying levels of turbo boost. This does a few things, including controlling exhaust smoke, maintaining proper EGTs through the boost and engine RPM range, and permitting better control of smoke and EGTs with increasing elevation.
The boost compensator should be installed by a professional diesel injection technician, and then the pump needs to be run on a test bench to correct for your desired tuning parameters, including the home elevation of your vehicle, the amount of desired turbo boost, and a few other factors which the pump tech will likely ask you about.
Calibrating an injection pump on a test bench will produce fuel delivery that is close to what you will end up desiring, however some fine tuning is often required to maximize your performance while keeping your EGTs in the desired range. To achieve this, you will need to have both an exhaust pyrometer (EGT gauge) installed as well as a turbo boost gauge. And, in a ideal world, a diesel specific Air to Fuel Ratio gauge (AFR gauge) would be helpful as well.
